The 48th National Pharmacy Week, 2009 was flagged by Emeritus professor and senior most pharmacists Dr. BP Saha at Sikkim’s only Himalayan Pharmacy Institute (HPI) on November 19 at Rangpo Bazaar.
GANGTOK, November 21: The 48th National Pharmacy Week, 2009 was flagged by Emeritus professor and senior most pharmacists Dr. BP Saha at Sikkim’s only Himalayan Pharmacy Institute (HPI) on November 19 at Rangpo Bazaar.
According to a press release, students and staff members of the institute conducted a rally carrying placards, banners and festoons displaying health related information. The rally started at 8.30 in the morning at Rangpo and concluded in the college campus at Majitar.
From 11 am, the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) chapter of HPI organized a voluntary blood donation camp sponsored by Sikkim State Aids Control Society (SSACS).
The Principal of the institute Dr. Amitava Ghosh, volunteered himself as the first donor to commemorate the first ever blood donation camp in the history of the institute. 37 units of blood were collected for the Central blood bank, Sikkim under the medical supervision of Dr. Chintamoni Sharma.
Considering huge response and enthusiasm from the students and staff, RRC coordinator, Arun Bakshi of HPI has decided to make blood donation camp a quarterly feature in its’ activities and had given a call to the society people to come forward for donation as ‘few drops of blood can save thousands of lives’, the release said.
