DEEPAK SHARMA
MANGAN, November, 16: Reacting to the news of ‘Lepchas from Kalimpong and Darjeeling’ planning for the ‘Long March 2’ to their ‘holy land’, Dzongu in North Sikkim, around 135 Lepchas hailing from different areas of Dzongu today met with District Collector (N) TN Kazi and placed a memorandum protesting against the visit.
Led by the Panchayats, the people from Dzongu have condemned the ‘Long March 2’ planned by the ‘Lepchas from Kalimpong’ and at the same time demanded the DC to arrange diversion the long march from Dzongu.
“The people of Dzongu are very much against this ‘Long March 2’ to Dzongu planned by the ‘Lepchas from Kalimpong and Darjeeling’ as it will bring about much sorrow among the people in Dzongu,” demanded the memorandum.
They have also stated that the Lepcha Association of Kalimpong had burnt the effigy of Dzongu MLA in the year 2008 without any reason. “If they respect our place and community, then they should not have insulted our MLA by burning his effigy. The peace and tranquillity of Dzongu is likely to be in danger due to this long march,” the people gathered at the DC office claimed.
Speaking to this correspondent, they said, they have requested the DC to take up necessary steps so that ‘peace and tranquillity would prevail in Dzongu’.

i dont understand ..why do the people of Sikkim tend to forget that Sikkim ceases to exist beyond Rangpo..and we the people of Sikkim..got more works beyond Sikkim than within Sikkim’s boundary.
If the ILTA people are coming here for a pilgrimage, lets not stop them, they have come for a good cause..
i fear the days wont come when people from Sikkim going to Gaya, Putaaparti,Bol Bam,etc…..would be stopped on da way..

    khamri vickey……
i have a different opinion on this one,we are all lepcha’s whether it be from nepal or bhutan or darjeeling or sikkim and hence we should respect each other no matter what.the people wholeheartedly supported the present mla and they should respect that fact that he had won the election with an overwhelming majority.By burning the effigy of the mla they have shown disrespect to the people’s choice.

but i do sincerely believe that we should settle this peacefully and maintain a cordial relationship after all we are bringing our community into shame due to the infighting.we can and have to settle this amicably for the larger interests of the lepcha community.all we need is to forget the past and leave the differences asides and someone to take the initiative………
