TB Rai expelled from ASESUA president post

GANGTOK, October 27: Following strong statements made against the Old Settlers Association of Sikkim on the Income Tax exemption issue, the president of All Sikkim Educated Self-employed and Un-employed Association (ASESUA) has been tentatively expelled from the post.
Addressing a press conference here today, the other members of the Association said the reason for ASESUA president TB Rai’s suspension from his post was the violation of the rules of the Association and not maintaining transparency within the association.
Marmith Lepcha, the general secretary of the Association also clarified that the Association was not responsible for any such press releases issued by TB Rai in the past days. “As per the rule, press releases should be signed and passed by at least two third members of the Association before it goes to the Press,” she said adding that Mr. Rai has been releasing press releases only with his signature which is unconstitutional. At the same time, the Association has requested the press and media not to entertain press releases issued by TB Rai.
It was also decided that Navin Kiran, the working president of the Association will be taking charge as the president until the association conduct its next general body election.
Refuting the statement made by TB Rai on Income Tax exemption issues of the old settlers, the newly appointed president said those statements has nothing to do with the main agenda of the Association, which he stressed only deals with the issue of non-implementation of direct taxes in Sikkim.
